Rebate & Incentive Programs
States and utility companies across the country offer a wide variety of financial programs providing incentives, rebates, and low-cost financing to encourage energy efficiency and sustainability implementation in existing and new buildings. The Navigreen team has a deep history within these programs, having helped design and administer some, and obtain incentives for our clients through others.
Some of the most comprehensive state-level programs exist in New Jersey and New York, driving the energy efficiency industry on a level unlike many other places. These incentives, especially when combined with available federal tax credits, can make it very economical in the short-term to be sustainable in the long-term! Below is a breakdown of some of the most popular programs in the region:
New Jersey (from the NJCEP)
Pay for Performance
Designed for larger buildings, Pay for Performance offers a comprehensive, whole-building approach with incentives that are directly linked to energy savings. Program partners provide technical services, Energy Reduction Plans, financial plans for funding the project and a construction schedule for implementation.
SmartStart Buildings
Financial incentives are available for upgrading individual heating and cooling systems, water heating, lighting and controls, refrigeration/freezer ECM motors, variable frequency drives, and more. There's even a custom path for energy efficiency measures with demonstrated cost justification, which are handled on a case-by-case basis. Enhanced incentives are available for certain facilities. Large Energy Users Program
The Large Energy Users Program is designed to promote self-investment in energy efficiency and combined heat and power projects with incentives up to $4 million for eligible projects in the state's largest commercial and industrial facilities. Learn more about eligibility and registration requirements.
Combined Heat & Power
Most CHP systems include a natural gas-fueled combined cycle combustion turbine to produce both steam and electricity from a single fuel source located on-site. These highly efficient technologies recover the heat that would otherwise be wasted during the generation of electricity and make use of that heat for commercial or industrial processes. This thermal energy may be used for direct heating, as a source for producing hot water or steam, or even for space conditioning and dehumidification. Rebates are available - learn more.
New York (from NYSERDA)
Flexible Technical Assistance (FlexTech) Program
Financial support for completing an energy study to identify and evaluate opportunities to reduce energy costs and incorporate clean energy into capital planning. The study can evaluate what building performance systems may be right for your business, and more.
Real Time Energy Management Program
Financial and technical support for installing a cutting-edge real-time energy management system (RTEM). NYSERDA will cost-share up to 30 percent of the overall RTEM project expenses and provide support to reap the benefits of building performance optimization.
Multifamily Performance Program (MPP) for Existing Buildings
Owners of affordable multifamily properties can earn incentives of $700-$3,500 per unit toward a project that reaches 15% or more in annual energy savings. A NYSERDA-qualified Multifamily Building Solutions provider will conduct an assessment of your property and recommend energy saving improvements tailored to your needs.
